Overview
Role: Drove packaging strategy and initiatives from concept through mass production, including but not limited to Pulp, Corrugate, SBS & soft goods.

DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING:
1) Worked with pulp manufacturer to develop pulp specs such as radius, draft angle, wall thickness, + material to prevent structural and cosmetic issues.
2) Designed support through dialing in folding and locking features based on pulp shrinkage rate.
3) Additional support added through the use of corrugate.

ENVIRONMENTAL TEST:
Replacing plastic protectant films with fiber-based material:
1) Tested different non-plastic materials (tracing paper, cotton paper, glassine paper, etc).
2) Tested different adhesive strengths (1.5N - 8N) and their varying tolerances.
3) Tested different adhesive patterns to combat the off-gassing coming from the silicone strip at the top of the product.
SECURING LOOSE ITEMS:
1) Hardware Box: Holder to showcase hardwares + replace plastic film.
2) Worked with oversea suppliers to source alternative materials (rPET, Cotton Spunlace, Bamboo Non-woven) to polyester fabric.

GENERAL LEARNINGS ON (SUSTAINABLE) DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING:
There are many different definitions of sustainability in manufacturing (Energy Optimization, Water Conservation, Pollution Prevention (water, air, soil), Waste Reduction, Virgin Raw Material Use- reduction, etc.). Based on your priorities, material selection and design choices will change.
